We caught up with Huda, one of our valued clinicians who moved from Pakistan to the UK, to pursue her career in NHS and UK dentistry.

“After completing my BDS in 2005 from Pakistan, and practising dentistry for around 3 years, me and my husband made the decision in 2008 to move to the UK. Life in the UK presented a whole new set of challenges, including language, food, people, environment, and the overall healthcare system. After 10 years of raising my family, I decided to get back into dentistry. Firstly, I had to pass an exam before starting my PLVE journey.”

We asked Huda about embarking on the journey of becoming qualified in the UK; she said: “Balancing my studies with my personal life was challenging, having two small children already. After passing some exams, I then obtained my GDC registration… Soon after, I heard about this position as a PLVE Dentist through one of my previous colleagues, who referred me for this position, I applied early last year [2022] and was successful…”

Huda’s start date as a PLVE Dentist was the 4th of May, 2022. From there, Huda began working alongside her very experienced mentor, Dr Powell, at one of our Lancashire-based practices and gained valuable experience.

“Throughout this journey, my mentor, Dr. Powell, played a crucial role in helping me gain a better understanding of NHS dentistry and the overall dental healthcare system in the UK. He is a very experienced clinician, so I have learnt a lot. The clinical freedom and the team here have been amazing – always beneficial to work in a very good environment. The team here at Darwen and the senior team are always ready to lend a helping hand, and I am grateful for the support I received from the Practice Manager too.”

Thanks to her continued perseverance and determination, Huda has now completed her training and is a valued member of The Dental Team Group.

“Earlier this year [2023], I successfully completed my PLVE journey. It was a ride filled with adventure, challenges, and personal growth. I am incredibly thankful to my mentor, Dr. Powell, the staff and other dentists here at Darwen for their ongoing support. I very much look forward to the future as I am currently starting Reveal Aligners and other dental courses which I am very excited about!”
