Overseas Dentists Recruitment Process

Overseas Dentists Recruitment Process

Discover our Overseas Dentist recruitment process and apply to work for us, whether outside of the European Economic Area or within the EEA.

If you have a primary dental qualification from the European Economic Area (EEA):

Your qualifications from your degree will be recognised in the UK allowing you to work as a dentist straight away!

Step 1

First, you will need to apply to the General Dental Council (GDC) for registration as a dentist to practise in the UK.

Step 2

After you submit your application, we will arrange for a member of our clinical team to call you and discuss your clinical experience. This interview helps us understand your background while also giving you the opportunity to ask questions and speak with a peer who works with The Dental Team Group. It offers you a real insight into life as a dentist in the UK – the call typically lasts about 60 minutes.

Step 3

Our clinical resourcing team will then work with you to identify your specific requirements and help find the ideal role. Once we have a shortlist of positions based on your preferred contract type, practice environment, and long-term career goals, we will arrange visits to the practices for you to meet the teams. If you’re not based in the UK or need to relocate, we can arrange a video meeting instead.

Step 4

If successful, we will present you with a formal offer. At this stage, a clinical support advisor will send you a contract and assist in gathering the necessary compliance documents, as well as scheduling your induction.

Step 5

To work for the NHS, you will need to complete a mentorship, which typically takes 12 months to finish.

Step 6

You will also need to apply for your NHS Performer Number (details of the process can be found here), which requires submitting several documents and obtaining approval from a panel or dental advisor. This can take time, but we will do our best to provide you with opportunities to see private patients while waiting.

Step 7

If you’re relocating to the UK, our dedicated relocation and immigration manager will assist you with applying for a sponsorship visa (if needed), setting up a bank account, and preparing for life in the UK.

Step 8

Before starting in your new practice, you will attend a personalised induction with The Dental Team Group & The Dental Team Education Centre. Your induction will be catered via your clinical experience call to ensure all your needs are met before beginning in your practice, and we’ll provide advice on how to grow and maximise your career with us.

Step 9

After completing these steps, you will begin your new role at your chosen practice. During your first week, you’ll go through a practice orientation to get familiar with your new team. As part of your mentorship, you will receive ongoing support from our senior team, including the Professional Development & Education Lead, Levi Greaves and our Chief Clinical Officer, Ravi Rattan.

If you have an overseas qualification from outside of the EEA:

Step 1

Before sitting the ORE, you will need to demonstrate an appropriate level of English by taking the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam.
